Another fantastic day in Johnstone Straits with humpback whales.

The 9:00 a.m. trip enjoyed watching three different whales including one identified as ‘Freckles’, one of our favorites. Amongst the humpbacks this morning were 100 plus Pacific white-sided dolphins which are always exciting to watch. There were lots of active Dalls porpoises and Stellar sea lions feeding in the area.

Our afternoon trip had an absolute humpback extravaganza! Seven humpbacks in all were spotted including ‘Freckles’, ‘Aerial’, ‘Conger’, ‘Jigger’ and three more unidentified whales.

An exciting moment was when some Dalls porpoises were bow and wake riding. The bird watchers on-board were treated to seeing hundreds of rhinoceros auklets, hundreds of common murres, four belted kingfishers, two pelagic cormorants and hundreds of northern phalaropes.

Topping off the trip was the sighting of a mother black bear with two cubs on the beach.
