A truly wonderful day out on the water! Clear skies, calm waters and humpbacks! They were extremely active with tail flukes and peck slaps. We had a great look at a Humpback known as “KC” who breached during our morning trip.
The guests on the Lukwa were thrilled at the enormous amount of energy this humpback whale was showing. One of our guests, Lianne Le Noble from Holland captured a couple fantastic photos. We had a group of very active Dall’s porpoises riding the bow and the wake of boat. Guests and crew were also very fortunate to have a full array of marine birds, such as rhinoceros auklets, common murres, Bald eagles and northern phalaropes.
On the 1:00 p.m. tour we came across two humpback whales traveling together, they have been identified as “KC” and the other as “Guardian”. They were lunge feeding, and slapping their tails as they worked their way amongst the kelp. We are pleased to see “Guardian”, this is his second day back in the area since last year.
Other marine mammal sighting today included a group of approximately 20 Harbour seals. It was another fantastic day in the Johnstone Straits. We were thrilled to have spent it with 3 wonderful groups of our guests, hailing from Europe and North America!
