Lots of fun on the water today! Guests and crew had an amazing sighting of a Minke whale to start off the afternoon! We observed the Minke whale surface over eight times! Very exciting as Minke whales tend to be difficult to spot, and thus little is known about them. We also sighted a lone mother dolphin and her young calf on the Lukwa! A great start to our Marine Wildlife Tour!
Our guests and crew were treated to a sighting of a humpback whale! The humpback may possibility be “Conger,” who we have seen earlier this week. Guests watched as the humpback did many tail flukes! We also sighted a very young seal pup with its mother hauled out on the rocks. Later another harbour seal surfaced approximately thirty feet from the Lukwa with a salmon in its mouth! A real treat for everyone on board!
Other marine mammal sightings today included two harbour porpoises and approximately 20 harbour seals. Towards the end of our tour we were visited by a group of 20 Pacific white-sided dolphins! Guests and crew also sighted approximately 100 rhinoceros auklets and six bald eagles! All in all a fantastic day at Stubbs Island Whale Watching!
