Thursday, June 28 – MV Lukwa

We were very fortunate to see so many marine mammals today on the Lukwa! On our morning trip we observed upwards to 200 Pacific white-sided dolphins in two groups. Guests and crew on our afternoon trip were also thrilled to see lots of dolphins riding the bow and wake of the Lukwa! A group of dolphins also entered Telegraph Cove to the delight of office staff and onlookers on the boardwalk! Very exciting for everyone!

Passengers on our morning trip were treated to a sighting of a humpback whale known as “KC” as well. Definitely one of the many highlights of the day!  Other marine mammal sightings today included lots of Dall’s porpoises and approximately forty harbour seals hauled out on the rocks.

We had lots of terrific bird sightings on both of our tours today! In the morning one of our guests snapped a great picture of a bald eagle fishing with its talons full of small fish! Guests and crew were also treated to bald eagles soaring ahead, and we were able to hear their calls echoing through the trees! Bird watchers would be exciting to hear about our sightings of hundreds of rhinoceros auklets and six harlequin ducks. Lots of great sightings for the day!
