Saturday, July 2, 2011 – MV Lukwa

Photo Credit: Carmen PendletonAs Captain Wayne headed out on the glass like seas this morning there was a chill in the air, but to our delight we were able to spot 4 humpback whales swimming within close proximity to each other out by Donegal Head.  The guest aboard had amazing sightings of Pacific white-sided dolphins, Dall’s porpoise, Stellar sea lions and approx.20 harbour seals. The ocean was a playground this morning, and this afternoon was just as exciting with sightings of 5 humpback whales throughout the afternoon. We also had bow riding Pacific white-sided dolphins which is always a wonderful sight for our guest aboard. We spotted several Dall’s porpoise, harbour seals and a pair of Stellar sea lions.  For the ‘twitchers’ today the following sea birds were sighted:  Rhinoceros auklets, common murres, bald eagles, Northern phalaropes and two pelagic cormorants.
